Literature Text

Sophie was walking around the square. She wanted to know why there were so many Trainer pokecats walking towards one area. She began to follow the crowd, wanting to see what the buzz was about. When she got to the area, it was packed to the brim. She couldn’t see what was on the bulletin board, so she had to sit down and wait. She sighed in annoyance. ”Why is there only one area for this? If there were other places, this wouldn’t be so bad.” She thought to herself.

Soon, the crowd did clear enough for Sophie to finally see what was posted. She quickly scanned it over, but could not understand what it was about. She read it over again, and finally got a grasp on things. There was a signup sheet for a tournament that was going to be held soon with the Trainers. Sign-ups were free, and it looked like a bracket style tournament. Sophie grinned widely at this. ”Finally! A chance to show everyone what exactly I’m made of!” She thought to herself loudly. She immediately grabbed the nearby writing too. She signed her name on one of the blank lines. She got one of the lower spots on the paper. Happy with what she put down, she walked back to the trainer hut.

When she got there, she saw many of the trainers practicing. ”I better practice too. With the tournament, I don’t want my moves to fail me or backfire.” She thought to herself. She approached one of the training dummies that didn’t have a pokecat on it. She got into position, and thought about what she was going to do. She already knew how to use Slash very well, seeing as how all she had to do was claw at something. She started by using Toxic first. She got herself ready, and purple ooze leaked from her mouth. When her mouth was filled with the stuff, she spat it out at the dummy. It made a direct hit to the head, but most of it landed on the floor. She sighed at this. She used too much, so it mostly didn’t make it. She prepared it again, but this time spat it out when there was less than before. It hit the dummy again, and less of the ooze was on the ground. Sophie practiced this move for a while until she finally got the right amount down. She looked at the ground and saw all the ooze on the ground. She had a red tint to her face as she went to get cleaning tools to clean up the mess.

Once that was done, she went to another training dummy. Dig was going to be next. She got her front claws out, and began to dig into the ground. She was rusty at this move, so it took her a while to get this done. When she thought she was underneath the dummy, she popped up. She growled when she found she missed the dummy altogether. ”Drat! Why did that completely miss?” She thought angrily to herself. She sighed and began to use Dig again. This time, she got underground faster, and clipped the dummy when she rose. It still wasn’t perfect. She dug into the ground again, and this time knocked the dummy over when she rose. It wasn’t by her claws, but more so of the dirt she made. Still not satisfied, she dug into the ground once more. When she rose, she actually hit the dummy and sent it into the air. She got out of the way before the dummy landed. She cleaned up her mess like before, which was hard because of the dirt and rocks.

With the dirt back in place, she began to practice the last move on her list: Vital Throw. She got onto her hind legs and wrapped her forearms around the dummy. She lifted it off the ground, and threw it to a nearby wall. The dummy hit the wall with a heave “Thud”. She liked how it turned out, but she knew that she could train to throw the dummy in other ways. She grabbed the dummy again, and this time jumped into the air. She got up fairly high, and threw the dummy to the ground. She heard something begin to snap in the dummy when she did that. She knew that was more effective. She grabbed the dummy once more, and threw it into the air. It hit the ground like before, but Sophie didn’t like it. She knew that Flying Types and pokecats that could fly or float could easily recover if she threw them into the air, but it could distract them for her to follow up with Toxic.

Once she got enough training in for the day, she smiled. She liked the progress she made. ”I just need to keep the training up every day. I hope that I can do well in the tournament so I can make Sage happy of what I can do.” She thought to herself. With that, she let out a yawn from exhaustion. By now, a lot of the pokecats had cleared out of the training area, and Sophie decided to do the same. She began to make her way outside of the trainer hut, hoping to get something to eat before she would go to sleep. “Maybe training with some of the Elite Four and Gym Leaders could help me hone my skills even further.” She said to herself as she padded to the town square.
